Hungarian archaeology in danger!
Dear Colleague,
We would like to express our gratitude for your sympathy with our fight against the new regulations on preventive excavations. We regret very much to inform you that the law has been amended by the Parliament. The only hope remained to us is that this intolerable rule will fail soon during the practice. We do everything possible to avoid the destruction of any piece of the cultural heritage.
Thank you very much indeed for your help and please keep an eye on this unique archaeological regulation.

The Hungarian archaeological heritage is in great danger. It is planned to modify the cultural heritage law so that the time allotted to excavation is in most cases limited to 30 days, independent of how big or how complicated the threatened area is.
These modifications are in clear contradiction with the convention of Valetta (European Convention on the Protection of the Archaeological Heritage). Hungary signed the convention February 9th 1993, and it became valid in Hungary May 25th 1995.
It is very important that protest notes are sent from as many countries as possible. Please see the following links:
